SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION PROCESS

1. Keyword Research - Determine which keywords you are going to focus on by researching popular keywords for your products or services. It is often best to focus on specific keywords rather than broad keywords.

2. Optimize Web Site - Once you have selected the initial set of keywords the process of optimizing your web site for those terms needs to take place. That includes but is not limited to enhancing your site title, meta tags, page content and obtaining incoming links with anchor text that matches your target keywords.

3. Submit/Index Site - After the initial optimization is complete your site is ready for initial indexing in Google, Yahoo, MSN and the other major search engines. The length of time it can take for the engines to initially index your site can range from a few days up to several months.

4. Analyze Results - Once the initial indexing is complete a baseline is established to determine your rankings for your target keywords and analysis of your web site and your competition needs to take place. There are several key indicators that the search engines use to determine the overall ranking of a web page for a specific keyword. Some of those indicators are the number of inbound links, keyword density within the site which is the number of times a keyword exists divided by the total number of index able words on that page, page content, title tags, meta tags, number of pages indexed and your Google PageRank score. These key indicators can be measured and then the process or cycle continues by re-evaluating your target keywords, re-optimizing re-indexing and then re-analyzing your results.
